The table is regularly high above us. Occasionally we can sit on a phone book - oh we don't have those anymore - or a booster seat.

When we are young, our hearts pump fast.

Time stretches out when our hearts beat fast.
But our senses observe details in slow-motion like a humming bird does.

So a summertime becomes a lifetime.
And we barely weigh anything.
We float off a hay loft.
The wind tosses us, the waves push us, we run around crazy.
Growing up is simple.
Live in slower and slower motion.
Everything eventually will stop.
It's a bit of an oversimplification, to say waves carry us.
Sound waves, light waves, physical waves.
Observe again. Rewind.
The waves aren't uniform. They have qualities.
It's not even uniform when we rewind it.
Again.
And again
And again.
Our next song is an impossible one.
Twenty minutes
Forty minutes
A split-second and a word is gone.
Instruments pounding
Keys
Cues
How many syllables
Was the vowel open? rounded? high? low?
Did a constanant explode? rustle? stop? not?
Words, grammar parse?
Is this the start of a new word or the end of an old?
Sounds connect into each other.
We can't even guess the words.
A poet speaks in riddles.
What does it mean?
Listen.
But not mindlessly.
Every second
With every detail
Will it to repeat
Reexperience
Until it becomes a curious thing
Repeat
Every three words, stop, backtrack
Listen
Three words can go by in one second
And the sounds change
Upon re-listening
Write it all down.
It will be maddening
Guessing
Re-listening
Hearing something totally different
Twenty hours
Forty hours
It's still impossible.
But time starts changing
